The Varsity Trip

The Varsity Trip was founded in 1922 to host the Varsity Races between Oxford and Cambridge. Traditionally, the trip was mainly for the racers representing each University and their families. Since then it has grown to become the largest student run ski trip on the planet, reaching 3000 participants last year! Approaching their 90th anniversary in 2012, the races are still a central part of the trip and the results are eagerly-awaited by members of both universities. The trip has, however, grown to be more than a racing event, hosting concerts by the likes of Bloc Party, Calvin Harris, Pendulum and Chase & Status!!

Varsity Trip will be heading back to Val Thorens this year. With links to the Three Valleys Network - the most extensive ski area in the world, it's a challenge to complete all of it on a week ;) Val T is also the highest resort in the French Alps (2300m). Hence, it's ideally suited to host such a large trip so early on in the season!

Of course, OUSSC will have a strong precence during the week. Each year the best OUSSC racers get a place reserved on the condition that they participate in our term time training sessions and race for us during the week. Join our VT Facebook group for more info: OUSSC Varsity 2011
